    JvF's 2010 Chevrolet Traverse SUV/Crossover review

We bought the traverse to replace a smaller Altima because we needed the room. We were surprised with how much room was in the Traverse and then surprised again at how comfortable it was. Great purchase would recommend it to anyone.

Add DVD player to base model and screens in all the seat head-rests.

    Petrucci's 2010 Chevrolet Traverse SUV/Crossover review

My wife and I test drove this car last week (we’re looking at the Traverse, the Buick Enclave and the GMC Acadia) and I like what I see, definitely. I’m not too sure it’s the right vehicle for just the two of us (and two cats), but man…that seven passenger setup was very nice. The one we looked at was the full-on LTZ model with the leather and all the “bells and whistles,” as the salesman described the thing. It had good power and all-wheel drive, and it sat up high, which my 5-foot, 1-inch wife loves.

Is it the right vehicle for me? I don’t know, as I’m more partial to sport sedans but she’s going to be the one driving it and she’s really into splurging this time. It certainly had good power, with something like 280 horsepower and it rode pretty nicely. I’d give it a solid B, only because that price tag was a shock to me.

Gotta get the gas mileage up and the blind spots eliminated.

    Lisa's 2010 Chevrolet Traverse SUV/Crossover review

The Chevy Traverse is spacious and has very nice leather, a fine finish. There is so much room- Chevy did a good job carving out additional areas on the doors and dashboard- it is a great use of space.

I really think they should change the name…what is traversed?

    Brady Bodiford's 2010 Chevrolet Traverse SUV/Crossover review

Best CUV we've purchased. We purchased this vehicle as a replacement for my wife's minivan. It can carry 4 people, 2 puppies (and all the stuff) and not much more, but it is a very smart vehicle. We still got ~20MPG with all that stuff!

Maintenance is easy with OnStar's monthly diagnostic. Oil life indicates when it's needing changing, not mileage (much easier!) and tire pressure is monitored. The assisted power steering in the vehicle makes turning the wheel easier when the vehicle is not moving (or moving slowly).

I feel very safe in this vehicle, since the walls of the doors come up higher than normal. I had to get used to this at first, but I really like seeing the door come up almost all the way to my shoulder before the window starts. That's much safer than having a huge window (and I don't feel like I'm driving a fish bowl). It can make drive-thru ATM transactions difficult, but not all the time.

The biggest nuisance with the vehicle is that the seats are not wide enough to accommodate a plus sized person. The Chevy salesman did give us seat belt extenders to keep us from being strapped in tight, but the back seat captain's chairs are small and my leg sits ON the seat belt buckle when I sit in the back.

The front seats are much more comfortable than the captain's chairs, and the seat belt extenders have taken care of the plus size problem (though if they made the seat belt longer, it wouldn't be necessary).

I highly, highly recommend this vehicle to anyone wanting a great balance among performance, safety, function/fashion, and value. This vehicle received all "Good" ratings from the IIHS (www.iihs.org). It may cost more than the other vehicles in its class, but Chevy is committed to providing quality to back up every dollar. They've done my family great things for years and I'm going to stick with them.

    Improvement Suggestions

The seats should better accommodate larger people. Most bigger people that I know buy utility vehicles because we don't usually fit/feel safe in smaller vehicles. It wouldn't have cost much in the floor plan to make the captain's chairs a bit wider.

If you're stopped at an incline and take your foot off the brake, the vehicle will roll backward if you don't push the gas immediately. We almost rolled backwards into someone at a red light because of this (don't get so close to the vehicle in front of you!) I've never seen this happen before in an automatic vehicle, but I'm guessing it's because of its weight.
