Description

Just as Mustangs of years past, the 2010 model is available as a four-passenger coupe or convertible, with a choice of V6 or V8 engines. The 210-horsepower, 4.0-liter V6 is carried over from last year, but all Mustang GT models now get the 315-horsepower, 5.4-liter V8 that was previously featured last year's special-edition Bullitt model. Both models now offer either a standard five-speed manual or optional five-speed automatic transmission.

Joining the lineup later in the model year will be an all-new version of the Shelby GT500, a high-performance variant of the Mustang that will now offer 540 horsepower from its supercharged 5.4-liter V8 engine. As before, it will only be available with a heavy-duty Tremec 6-speed manual transmission-and as before the GT500 will be distinguished by its twin racing stripes running the length of the vehicle-but Ford promises a retuned suspension, improved steering feel and, for coupes, high-speed-rated Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires to get more out of the tremendous engine.

The sheetmetal of all the Mustang models is almost entirely new for 2010. The most noteworthy changes are up front, where all models now get a "powerdome" hood that bulges upward, a redesigned grille and front fenders, new headlamps that have a slimmer look, and more aggressively sculpted lower air intakes. In back the Mustang has a new taillamp design that follows a vertical theme, and includes with more sharply styled rear corners, a creased decklid and a larger badge. The taillamps are of a modern LED design but also bring back a nostalgic feature from the 1960s Mustangs: Turn signal lamps blink from the inside outward.

The Mustang has been especially upgraded inside. The redesigned instrument panel is still upright and uncluttered, but it has a new two-tone look with matte-metallic and soft-touch matte-black materials-both upgraded in appearance and feel. Deep-dish gauges with bright chrome trim rings look even better than before, and a redesigned three-spoke steering wheel includes audio and cruise controls.

The overall interior packaging of the Mustang changed little, which means that quarters are tight, but front occupants will fit comfortably into supportive bucket seats while smaller adults or children will fit acceptably in the back seat. A retuned suspension in the Mustang brings a greatly improved ride while also improving handling, and more sound insulation assures a quieter cabin.

The latest safety features are now features in this affordable sport car. Electronic stability control is now standard across the Mustang line, as are anti-lock brakes and seat-mounted side airbags.

Both the coupe and convertible are offered in base, Premium, GT and GT Premium models. GT trims add the V8 engine, larger wheels and tires, fog lamps and a stainless-steel exhaust. In both versions, the Premium trim adds a host of interior comforts and conveniences, such as leather upholstery, aluminum accents, a My Color interior ambient lighting system, Shaker 500 premium audio, Sirius Satellite Radio and Ford's Sync interface, which allows hands-free calling through Bluetooth cellphones and control of audio devices.

The options list has been expanded and now includes dual-zone climate control, a navigation system, a rear video camera, HID headlamps and a large glass roof.

My older brother is probably going to get a Mustang, if he can talk my mom into co-signing. He really likes the style, but he's more of a classic car guy than I am. I like it all right, but I don't think it's the best option out there. I guess for the money it's a pretty good choice though. According to my bro, it gets OK gas mileage, has a lot of safety features and is comfortable to drive. Of course, that's what he's saying to try and get my mom to co-sign, so I'll have to wait to see for myself.

My mom's biggest concern is that he's going to pay out the nose for insurance on this car. She's also worried about the lack of space in the backseat. I don't know why that'd be a problem for my brother though, he's not exactly the most popular guy on the block.

I've test driven a Mustang several times thinking of buying one. The new body style to me is a step down from the last few years - it's boxier without gaining any aesthetic sense. I'm not sure why they changed it. Bummer.

This car drives like what you'd hope for in a sports car. It's a great style, and I'm tempted even though I don't have a very good perception of Ford's reliability as a brand. The other down-side if you're wanting to stand out is that there seem to be a lot of mustangs on the street, so they are cool and attractive but perhaps not very individual.

    Improvement Suggestions

The two big things for me are uncomfortable seats and poor reputation for reliability in the Ford brand overall. It could use more leg room and just a more comfy seat.

Great sporty car with tons of power. Fun to drive and looks great. Reliable and decent gas mileage on a V8.

    Improvement Suggestions

More leg room in the back seats, even a small persons legs are against the front seats.

The Mustang I purchased was initially not what I had in mind when I was deciding on a fun-to-drive vehicle after coming back from Afghanistan -- I had the Camaro in mind. But, I'm glad I was steered to the Mustang after all was said and done! I purchased the 2010 Mustang in the V6 Premium trim with Sync/Nav and an automatic transmission. This car rides better than any vehicle I've ever driven; the GT suspension is smooth and handles curves at speed without even a stutter when sticking to the road. The only thing it's missing is the pseudo-manual shifting offered in the Camaro automatic. However, the shifting is responsive -- stomping on the gas yields a swift response from the drivetrain. The exterior looks great; the wheels are finally in good proportion to the rest of the car. The interior with the leather seats is extremely comfortable -- the dash and controls are solid with a good feel. The SYNC is great; Sirius TraveLink is a great addition -- seemed like an "extra" at first, but now I don't see going without it now! On top of it all, the fuel efficiency of the V6 comes through on daily driving. My commutes are relatively short, but I take the occasional weekend drive. Although it's not geared necessarily towards the "Green" crowd, it's a good pick for those who want sporty but still consider efficiency a factor in purchasing a sports car.

    Three things:

    1. The removable panel on the right side of the interior passenger side foot well keeps coming off no matter how much you try to avoid doing so. It's kind of flimsy to begin with, but the snap-in connector that's supposed to keep it in place keeps losing its grip. Unacceptable for a car that I spent the $$ I did on it.

    2. The V6 delivers adequate power for those times when you want that kick in acceleration. But, did Ford absolutely have no clue that Chevy would come out with a comparable V6 that would beat them out by over 90 hp in 2009? That's the reason why I looked at the Camaro *first*, then Mustang. The dealership I went to and the 6-month wait for the Camaro were what steered me across the street to the Ford dealership. The only saving grace for the 4.0L V6 is the healthy aftermarket for Mustang V6 performance parts, which I will be delving into once I save up the $$ for some upgrades. C'mon Ford, give the Mustang the EcoBoost option -- heck, I'll even get in line to get *my* Mustang an EcoBoost upgrade!!

    3. The use of plastic on the exterior, especially on the tops of the rear-view mirrors, was kind of an unpleasant surprise. That stuff scratches *too* easily; I'd like to preserve the look of my 'Stang for a good long while. Plastic exterior "touches", where painted sheet metal should be, don't contribute to that goal very well.

My buddy got a new GT out of college, he's nice enough to let each one of us drive it every once in awhile, what a car!! I'll pick up his bar tab anytime if it means I can get behind the wheel...shots are on me!!!

I don't understand how you can give this car anything below an A+, it is a great vehicle, a true American Muscle car. Ford did a great job transforming this into a modern day muscle car, and not only is it affordable, but it's worth every penny. The shape is solid, the features allow you to make your Mustang one in a million.

The GT is solid with a 30K price tag, including a V8 engine, manaul transmission, a deck spoiler, and a power dome hood. This car is build to drive, and it does drive.

The interior is loaded with an upgrade Shaker audio system, leather trimmed seats, a bright aluminum panel for gauges, shifters, etc.

When an American company comes out with a great classic and revamps it, they should get their due credit, and anyone looking for a true muscle car would be crazy not to test drive this vehicle.

If it's what your looking for it's great, it's priced well with extras!
