2009 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Overview

Description
The SLR McLaren looks like it was built with speed in mind, and the engine lives up to that promise. The 5.4L supercharged V8 has 617 hp and 575 lb-ft of torque with a 5-speed automatic transmission that can be controlled with paddle shifters. The car has a top speed of 206 mph and a 0-60 time under 4 seconds.
A good portion on the $495,000 price tag is in carbon fiber. The body shell and chassis are made of carbon-fiber composites, as are the contoured sport seats. Even the electrohydraulic braking system has carbon-fiber reinforced ceramic brakes. If that's not enough stopping power, a 4-position rear airbrake helps bring the car back down from a 200-mph session at the track.
Styling cues came from Formula 1, where McLaren continues to innovate, especially in the distinctive pointed nose with the Mercedes emblem centered above the double front spoilers. Mercedes brought its own heritage to bear most noticeably in the doors, which pivot at the front, opening gull-wing style for ease of entry, and in the massive gills behind the front wheels that vent the engine.
Safety features such as front, side, knee, and side curtain air bags are standard, as are traction and stability control. As a matter of fact, there are few options in the SLR, since it has almost everything an enthusiast could ask for. The interior is wrapped in your choice of 14 different leather upholsteries, but more carbon fiber trim can be added as an option.
