My friend Jeff has a Civic Coupe in bright blue and he really loves it. He is one of the last twelve people on the planet who still insists on driving a stick (myself included) and said that he had to call around to five different dealers until he found a blue one with a stick. He got to the dealership literally as his car was being rolled off the truck.
Jeff's commute is entirely within the city and he still manages to get over 30 mpg. We used his car to drive to Sacramento because it got such great gas mileage. I think that we got about 36 or 37 on that trip which is pretty amazing when you consider that the new Prius gets about 50 and it's a hybrid that costs a lot more.
I really love the design. It's still a Civic - cute and fun and dependable - but sportier. And I like that it's not overly sporty. This is a good, fun car that isn't trying too hard. In the 4-door model, I could even fit my 6'5'' father in the back seat. That's not always an easy feat!
My only big gripe on this car is the shifter. Not a very smooth transition when changing gears. Very clunky. And when driving a sporty car, a smooth shifter is a must! Also, I don't really care for the interior in this version of the Civic. It looks busy and too futuristic to me. I liked the interior in the older model Civics better. I'm not a big fan of digital speedometers either.
Despite all the great stuff about this car, it's not my first choice for long road trips. The bucket seats are a little less than comfortable on long drives (I think it has to do with the shape of the headrests). I find if you try to rest your head on the back of the headrest, it just constantly bounces off of it. I feel like a bobble-head. :)
My boyfriend and I just celebrated our 1-year anniversary at our favorite restaurant, Cut. The restaurant is inside the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and you have to walk past the valet area to get inside. Obviously, you see a lot of really nice (and really expensive) cars when you walk in or out.
There must have been something extra special going on last night because there was not one but TWO of these gorgeous Ferraris waiting in line. I snapped a picture and two of my friends on Twitter identified the model for me so that I could write about it.
The cars are BEAUTIFUL in person, and purrrred all the way out of the valet (like a lion, not like a housecat). I'm thinking a career change may be in order!
I couldn't really tell you. Maybe if Ferrari could loan me one for a few days, I could make a few suggestions. ;)
I swear this will be my next purchase (the hatchback, not sedan). I've loved this car for a couple years now, but have yet to actually drive it. However, from what I hear it's a great little car. I've grown to love hatchbacks/wagons over the last few years, and this one grew on me instantaneously. The exterior is fun and sporty, without that street racer car feel. I'm still a little iffy on the new grill they added to the 2010 models. I think it draws too much attention away from the rest of the body. But from behind, this model is beautiful!
I haven't seen the interior of the 2010 model, but I do remember lots and lots of buttons on the 2009 model from the LA Auto Show last year. I think the steering wheel had 12 buttons alone (button, button, who's got the button). It seemed a bit unnecessary. Also, some of the buttons didn't really clearly say what they were for.
My friend Matt had one of these cars for a while and he's picked me up a few times in it when we go out. I really liked it overall because it's very luxurious and because it isn't another BMW 3-Series (I swear, half the people in LA drive a 3-Series).
I didn't have a chance to drive it but I could tell that it was a fast car. I was also really impressed by the technology. Matt showed us the voice recognition thing and was able to program an address right into the navigation system just by speaking. The computer messed up at one point but he was able to go back and fix it. That's a pretty nice feature and I think that it helps with the safety of the car because you don't have to take your eyes off the road.
Most of my time in this car was as one of the passengers in the back seat. I would say that there is an okay amount of space back there but it isn't huge. Also, the door doesn't open very wide so it is tough to get in the back seat. Other than that, I really like this car!
My friend Matt leased a Rogue through his company and we took it to go snowboarding a few times. He used to work for a car company and would bring home cool cars all the time so I was a little bit disappointed in this one because it was pretty basic. It had leather and a sunroof and bluetooth, but that's it. Where's the navigation system and power everything?
To me, this car is just a big station wagon... it's a mom car that you put your kids in. Even then, I don't know if it is really that good of a mom car. The car tries to be very swoopy and the cargo space seemed to be pretty small. We would usually just take three people (and our boards) in the car when we went snowboarding and it was fine. It would've been painful if we tried to fit another person in the back seat though because we had to fold down one section of the back seat to fit our snowboards inside.
How about adding a navigation system? At least make it an option!
I have some scary memories of this car. Not because of the car itself, but because my friend Peggy drives this and she is absolutely insane on the road! She tailgates people and swerves really hard no matter where she is driving. My boyfriend always volunteers to drive whenever we take her car out to dinner. ;)
The car is kind of old now so it doesn't really have any cutting-edge technology. There's no navigation or bluetooth or any of that stuff. Actually, Peggy said that the CD player broke too, so we're down to just the radio when it comes to entertainment options.
I'm always a passenger in the car and it is pretty comfortable and smooth. The back seat has a lot of legroom and you can fit five people in the car without it being too cramped. I think that Lexus makes nice cars but they are kind of boring in my mind.
I bet that the technology has already improved by now, but I hope that the new Lexus cars have gotten a more interesting design inside. This one is pretty boring and the wood trim looks fake to me.
I own an older Nissan Frontier and love it. It always gets the job done and I haven't had any major problems in all the years I've driven it.
I went for a ride in this latest Frontier recently and was really shocked to find that it had gotten so big! I liked that the back seat in the new four-door model was so roomy (my truck is not), but seriously - what happened to my little easy-to-park Frontier? This new one is massive!
I do like the styling. It's aggressive and macho, but in a subtle way.
I also really liked the power. My friend was driving and he floored it when we were merging onto the freeway. It pushed me right back in the seat and we were at speed in no time. Pretty impressive punch.
I was totally shocked when my friend told me how much he had paid for his truck because it seems like Frontiers used to be so cheap. Did the price go up when they made it bigger?
Also, I think that the MPG could be better. My friend says that he gets about 15-17 MPG on his commute (about half city and half highway driving). I guess that's the tradeoff for having so much power.
One of my friends owns a Prius and we took her car on a weekend trip to go snowboarding. There were five of us - plus all of our suitcases - crammed into a tiny car for six hours. I didn't think that the Prius would actually have enough power to move all of that weight, but we managed to do 80 on the highway.
I have to give the car credit for fitting five adults, plus luggage. It's not a huge car but it did a great job of holding all our stuff. That hatchback really comes in handy.
The interior is kind of plain, but there are some cool features and details that make it a nice place to be. There's no hump in between the driver and front passenger, for instance, so it feels surprisingly roomy when you sit up there. Also, I really like watching the display that shows how the battery and engine are working together.
I'm not a huge fan of the styling of this car. I know that it's distinctive but I still don't really like it.
Also, it would be nice if the car had better acceleration. My friend is always complaining that she doesn't have enough power and it seems like a bit of a safety hazard to me.
